Multiple Smart Objects

Creating Mockups with Multiple Smart Objects - One Design or Different Designs

6.1 Overview

Bulk Made now supports PSD templates with multiple smart objects, making it easy to create advanced mockups that showcase your design from different angles, on multiple surfaces, or in various positions—all within a single image.

There are two core modes for handling multiple smart objects:

6.2 Mode 1: Same Design on All Smart Objects

Best for:

  • Mockups showing the same product from multiple angles (e.g., front and back of a wooden block, two views of a box lid)

How It Works

  1. Your PSD contains multiple smart objects (linked or separate)
  2. The same design is placed into every smart object
  3. Effects are applied to each smart object
  4. You get a complete mockup showing your design from all angles

Setup Steps

  1. Select Same design on all smart objects in the Smart Object Mode section
  2. Choose your PNG folder (your design files)
  3. Select your PSD folder (templates with multiple smart objects)
  4. Pick your effect settings
  5. Click Continue to Processing Settings

Linked Smart Objects (Pro Tip)

If your PSD uses linked smart objects (duplicates of the same smart object), editing one updates all linked copies automatically. Bulk Made handles this for you—no extra steps required.

Pro Tip: Use linked smart objects when you want identical placement across multiple views.

6.3 Mode 2: Different Design Per Smart Object

Best for:

  • Mockups where different areas need different designs (e.g., box lid and box side, front and back labels)

How It Works

  1. Your PSD contains multiple smart objects, eg
    • SmartObject1
    • SmartObject2
    • etc
  2. You create subfolders named exactly after each smart object layer, eg
    • /SmartObject1
    • /SmartObject2
    • etc
  3. Different designs are placed into their matching smart object, based on folder names
  4. Effects are applied to SmartObject1 only by default
  5. To apply settings to all smart objects - in the "Apply Effects To:" click the radio buttom **All smart objects (same effects to all)

Setup – Folder Structure

Create a root folder with subfolders matching your smart object layer names (case-sensitive):

PNG_Root_Folder/
├── SmartObject1/
│ ├── design_A.png
│ └── design_B.png
├── SmartObject2/
│ ├── photo_1.png
│ └── photo_2.png
└── SmartObject3/
└── logo.png

Setup – Plugin Settings

  1. Select Different design per smart object radio button in the Smart Object Mode section
  2. Choose your PNG Root Folder (the folder containing subfolders)
  3. Select the Driver Smart Object (this determines how many mockups are created)
  4. Pick your effect settings
  5. Click Process All Combinations

Driver Smart Object Logic

  • The driver smart object decides the number of mockups generated.
  • Example:
    • SmartObject1 (3 designs), SmartObject2 (2 designs)
    • If SmartObject1 is the driver: 3 mockups (SmartObject2 cycles)
    • If SmartObject2 is the driver: 2 mockups (SmartObject1 cycles)

“Create All Combinations” Option

Enable this to generate every possible pairing:

  • SmartObject1 (3 designs) × SmartObject2 (2 designs) = 6 mockups

6.6 Troubleshooting & Pro Tips

IssueSolution
Subfolder not recognisedSubfolder name must match smart object layer name exactly (case-sensitive); avoid special characters
Effects only on one smart objectIn MULTIPLE mode, effects apply to the driver/first smart object by default. To apply to all, select “All smart objects” in “Apply Effects To”
Wrong number of mockupsThe driver's PNG count determines output count (unless “Create all combinations” is enabled)

Pro Tip:
For advanced workflows, you can mix and match modes across different products—test with sample batches first to ensure your folder structure and naming are correct.
